Best Way To Lose Weight - Natural & Healthy So It Lasts!

This is a really good question about switching to veganism!?

Hi, I'm a twenty year old female and I've just switched to a vegan diet lifestyle. After doing research on cruelty to animals and making healthy choices, going vegan seems the way to go. So far I've cut out all meats (red, poultry and seafood), dairy(or any animal derived product), switched to buying everything organic and making sure I read the ingredients very carefully, I have also cut out any sugars that are refined and not natural. I do not use hydrogenated products either. I weigh about 135lbs on a 5'3 frame. Although the soul reason for my diet change was not to lose weight, I am hoping to shed a few pounds in the process. Can any of you speculate on how fast I will start to see results, as well as share your story of becoming a vegan?
Thanks:)

I understand what some of the responses are saying about the unhealthy aspect of a vegan diet... But that comes from a misconception about what to eat. Lots of new vegans become unhealthy not because of the inherent lack of sufficient nutrients but because they don't carefully plan out their diet. It takes a lot, and I mean A LOT, of time and energy to plan out a healthy vegan diet. You have to be committed to that. There are non animal based B12 and iron supplements on the market. You just have to look for them. Try Whole Foods. I also feel compelled to add, while 'caught' fish might be healthier for you, it certainly isn't better for the planet as a whole. Think of all the over fishing occurring and how it is affecting the food chain. Tsk tsk. You should also establish a good relationship with your doctor. Get blood work done at least annually and more often if you are having problems or suspect you may be developing a deficiency. It is vital that you inform your doctor of your plans so that he/she can monitor you appropriately, especially at first. Making an ethical choice about food shouldn't (and doesn't have to) make you sick.

Now, with that being said, I have been a vegetarian for 10 years and this year have given up dairy (not due to ethical concerns but because I am lactose intolerant and my doctor finally badgered me into giving it up). It is 28 days into January and I have lost 11 pounds. This is also due to exercise but I think the cheese had a lot to do with it as well.

Good luck in your endeavors! And even if you don't make it as a vegan I think it is a good thing that you are doing even trying it and hopefully you will look at food a little differently from now on. Count all the 'thumbs down' on any pro-vegan post and you will see that it isn't an easy life style for most people to understand. Though, ironically, fast food and 1300 calorie burgers are perfectly acceptable. Go figure!
