Diabetics And Teen Pop Sensation Nick Jonas

Apart from his doctors, his fans are also very concerned about his health as he is affected by diabetes. And this has brought diabetes to the from page of pop culture. One of the famous brothers of Jonas brothers Nick Jonas was not definitely trying to become famous for type 1 diabetes. But unfortunately he became famous for that. He took the center stage of fame at an young age of 17.

Symptoms

Nick Jonas was the picture of health for almost his entire childhood. It wasn't until the fall of 2005 that the youngest Jonas brother noticed symptoms. Weight loss, constant thirst, and a poor attitude became commonplace for him. He was quoted saying that this behavior "was totally odd for me because I'm actually a nice person. And it was hard." When his weight loss became so dramatic, he took time off from a tour to see a doctor. He was shocked to discover the diagnosis: Type 1 diabetes. With his blood sugar over 700, he was admitted into the hospital immediately.

Controlling diabetes

Nick Jonas was devastated. He was thinking that he will ever perform on stage ever. But to everyone's surprise he performed on stage the same day he got discharged from the hospital. On a regular basis he is injected with insulin and checked his blood glucose level for 12 times a day. Then he was introduced to Omnipod by insulet after an year. He describes that it is awesome and he says he is not adhering to any special diet, he just takes enough insulin for what he eats.

Saving Others

He waited until he managed his diabetes well and now he even injects insulin in public amid flashes from paparazzi's. Ever since Nick Jonas was diagnosed with diabetes he wanted to reveal it to public. He thinks his popularity can bring immense awareness on diabetes and this will save many people.

He knows that diabetes "is a huge part of my life and I can't just forget about it, obviously. I have to keep taking care of it and managing it, and learning more things about it. Hopefully one day they'll come up with some type of cure, and I hope I'll be one of the first to know about it." While Nick has not publicly acknowledged his use of supplemental health care options, he has made one thing very clear - a positive attitude can go a long way. There is little doubt that the optimism- perhaps the most natural treatment of all - he demonstrates on stage and in his young life translates to better health.

People who are looking to alternative diabetes care there are many number of options available. There are many number natural health options online. Apart from this we will also release our detailed on how to control diabetes naturally.

Diabetes Mellitus

Having a diabetic menu is extremely important, as the upkeep of good health of the diabetes patients highly relies on the selection as well as adaptation of proper menu. In this connection, a correct menu is a low calorie diet. Except for being low calorie, a diabetic list of food has to be low cholesterol and low glucose level too.

Come visit us right here for more info on American Diabetes Association. We are the greatest source of info on Diabetes today.
http://diabetesmenu.org

It has to be borne in mind that dietary obligation for not all sorts of diabetes are the same. For example, a menu for juvenile diabetes and an inventory of food for adult diabetes are quite different. However some common factors are also there and they are like the previously mentioned criteria having minimum glucose, lipid quantities. So far as the sources of a diabetic menu are concerned they are typically fat free sources lacking in excessive carbohydrate. First, remember the food is a comparatively strict diet. Accordingly, you have got to choose the food items quite carefully. First, it's got to be sorted the foods are sufficiently fresh in quality and in addition aren't tinned or canned in any way. It is not true that you're going to not be ready to take sugar at all when you choose the fruits as there is sugar in them. Therefore , just take care that your menu is a balanced one, lacking in unjustifiable glucose outside the permissible level. Introduce more oranges, apples, red cabbage, beans, bananas, and carrots into your diet. Aside from this, incorporate many high fiber plants along with those leafy ones in your diabetic menu. Fiber is critical as it provides help in the digestion swiftly.

Instead of having heavy meals at a time, take short meals at regular intervals. This will help you to digest your food fast and easily. Again, rather than cheese and butter, go for the margarines in the menu that are light enough when compared to the prior ones. If you're a diabetic patient, abstain from the calorie-heavy drinks and or stick to the fresh fruit juices. Although it is disheartening enough to say, take out the puddings from your regular meal menu. While it is actually a tough job to exist without cakes, pastries, and cookies, but if you're feeling defenseless then choose the products, especially meant for the diabetic patients with sugar-free elements.
A sample diabetic menu is given here for a simple appreciation of the readers :

Early morning : tea/coffee without sugar

Breakfast : skim milk - 1 cup, wholeweat bread/ porridge cup/ egg sandwich- two slices

Lunch : green leafy vegetables, multi grain foods, fish/chicken/egg ( 1 piece ), vegetable salad, curd

Evening : tea/coffee without sugar, nibbles biscuits

Diabetes is one of the most widespread illness in the human kind. It doesn't truly rely on your age and gender as to if and when you may fall victim of this problem. There are certain things which lead to increased possibility of diabetes.
Exercise Can Help a Diabetics Avoid Amputation

Television shows that focus on dramatic weight loss frequently highlight someone with Type-2 diabetes. Often after the diabetic has lost weight through a program of exercise, the diabetes appears to have been "cured." Although it is well known that exercise is healthy, the question is whether or not exercise can really treat diabetes effectively. It turns out that there is a great deal of scientific evidence to suggest that it can.

In the simplest of terms, diabetes is a disease where the body cannot effectively produce or use a hormone known as insulin. Without insulin, the blood sugar increases and carbohydrates and sugars are not used effectively by the body's cells. Most diabetes treatments focus on controlling blood sugar either by administering insulin directly or through the use medications that change the body's ability to use insulin.

One of the very best ways to treat diabetes is with exercise. We know that when a patient has diabetes, diet and exercise can significantly change the course of the disease. In fact, studies have shown that after 45 minutes of aerobic exercise, such as brisk walking or running, a diabetic patient's insulin sensitivity may increase for up to 48 hours.

This is extremely beneficial for type 2 diabetics. A study published in 2009 clearly demonstrated that 150 minutes of exercise each week dramatically increased insulin sensitivity. This increase in the body's ability to use the insulin that is already present may mean the difference between taking insulin shots or not for a type 2 diabetic.

Not only can aerobic exercise control diabetes by changing the way the body uses insulin, but it also can help a number of other diabetes related conditions. We know that in all people, exercise can lower cholesterol levels. Hyperlipidemia or high cholesterol is another condition affecting diabetics. We know that the VLDL and LDL (bad cholesterol) is lowered with exercise, while HDL (good cholesterol) is increased.

In addition, walking and other forms of regular aerobic exercise can lower blood pressure. Hypertension or high blood pressure is a common complication of diabetes. It has been demonstrated in a number of clinical studies that regular exercise. Typically has the effect of reducing the blood pressure by about 10mm/Hg. Lowering of blood pressure is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of death related to stroke and heart attack.

Morbid obesity is a problem that is also very closely related to type-2 diabetes. Obesity alone is a major risk factor for heart disease. It also leads to insulin resistance, making diabetes harder to manage. When someone with diabetes loses 15 to 20 pounds, the fasting insulin levels can drop by 30 to 50%. Because of this there is much better control of the blood sugar.

Heart attacks and strokes are also common in type 2 diabetic patients. In fact, about 20% of type 2 diabetics already have coronary artery disease by the time they are diagnosed with diabetes. Regular aerobic activity such as walking has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

When we compare two identical people, yet one is diabetic and what is not, the one who is diabetic is actually four times more likely to suffer a heart attack. Thanks to the work of Dr. Kenneth Cooper, we know that aerobic exercise can prolong a person's life. In 1968, he wrote a book entitled Aerobics. At the time he was widely criticized for his opinions about prolonging life through vigorous exercise. 40 years after Dr. Cooper expressed his theories, they are widely accepted as scientific fact.

More recently, a study published by Stanford University researchers provided encouraging news for all inactive adults. So don't think you need to be a marathon runner in order to benefit from exercise. Those who are completely sedentary and started a modest exercise program cut their risk of a cardiovascular death nearly in a half. This shows that the greatest benefits of exercise in terms of health and longevity are the easiest to achieve.

Your muscles must have oxygen in order to function. Oxygen is carried to the muscles in the bloodstream. The arteries can become damaged by diabetes. Poor circulation known as peripheral arterial disease can gradually decrease the amount of blood flow to your feet. This is one of the circumstances that can put you at risk for development of gangrene. Gangrene is one of the leading causes of diabetic foot amputations.

One way to combat this problem is with exercise. When you begin to walk, the muscles in your feet and legs start to consume oxygen much faster than when you are sitting still. The body will increase blood flow to the area in order to keep up with the demand. If you are in the process of developing peripheral arterial disease, you will have to develop additional blood vessels in order to keep up with the demand for oxygen caused by exercise. Doctors call this collateral circulation. In essence, you develop backup blood vessels, which can prevent you from having poor circulation. This will only occur if you exercise.

All people that have diabetes are at risk for developing open sores on their feet known as diabetic foot ulcers. These open wounds are the precursors that lead to diabetic foot amputations. Because of this, wound healing is very important. A number of studies have clearly shown that exercise helps dramatically speed wound healing. Wounds that heal faster are much less likely to become infected and lead to an amputation.

When the blood sugar is high, the white blood cells that directly fight infection by eating the bacteria are essentially disabled. By reducing the blood glucose, a diabetic patient can increase the effectiveness of his or her immune system. This can mean the difference between a simple open sore and a diabetic foot infection that leads to an amputation.

The primary goal of treating diabetes is to prevent avoidable long-term complications. With so many positive effects of exercise it is clear that any diabetic patient could benefit from exercise. Although exercise may not cure diabetes, there is no doubt that every diabetic can benefit from a structured walking or exercise program. As with any type of exercise, be sure to consult with your personal physician before starting a new exercise routine.

Bone Density Loss: Prevention A Far Better Option To Treatment

Did you know that you were meant to have strong, and healthy, bones throughout your lifetime? Unfortunately, about 40 percent, currently, of American women and about 6 percent of American men, over the age of 50, will have a vertebral fracture due to bone mass loss (or osteoporosis).

This disease has, typically, always been more prevalent in women than in men. While many women may have a loss of bone mass, they experience this trend earlier in their lives than men, both genders by the age of 65 to 70 lose bone density at the same rate.

Eating your way to better bone health

Dietary nutrient deficiencies are the single largest contributors leading to bone mass loss. The leading one is getting an insufficient amount of bone strengthening minerals. Of course, everyone knows calcium plays an important role in the prevention of osteoporosis. But, few understand that are several other key minerals, nutrients, and lifestyle factors that, also, play a pivotal role in helping the body, properly, absorb dietary calcium and maintain hard bones and teeth.

You see, most of us do not have any trouble getting enough calcium in our diets. Calcium is present in nearly every whole food that you eat, or water that you drink.

The second most important mineral in the prevention of bone mass loss is magnesium. Getting enough dietary magnesium is a serious problem affecting nearly all of the human population in the U.S., especially those most vulnerable to the disease, which is women.

The partnership between calcium and magnesium is a rather intimate one, and a shortage of either one diminishes the effectiveness of the other. A lack of sufficient dietary magnesium limits new bone growth, while at the same time, it will also prevent calcification (strengthening) of bone mass. Building up strong bones really begins in childhood and adolescence, peaking in our early 30's.

An ideal calcium to magnesium ratio is harder for us to maintain now, more than ever, due to depletion of magnesium in U.S. soils (mainly due to modern farming practices), the over consumption of processed foods and beverages, fluoridation of drinking water supplies, certain prescription and over the counter drugs, and digestive problems.

Other, less notable, key minerals contributing to bone strength, or loss, are insufficient amounts of potassium, phosphorous, manganese, copper, boron, and zinc.

A whole food diet is best

Foods to include for their mineral content are raw, or minimally processed, brightly colored whole fruits and vegetables. Add whole grains, nuts, and seeds in moderation, and red meats sparingly. An often overlooked table seasoning can help promote bone strength too.

In his book, 'Your Body's Many Cries For Water', by Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, M.D., page 161, is quoted as saying, "salt is a most essential ingredient of the body. In their order of importance, oxygen, water, salt, and potassium rank as the primary elements for survival of the human body. About 27 percent of the salt content of the body is stored in the bones in the form of crystals. It is said that the salt crystals are naturally used to make bones hard. Thus a salt deficiency could also be responsible for the development of osteoporosis".

When drinking your body weight, divided in half in ounces of nothing more than water every day for health benefits, there will, undoubtedly, be a greater loss of sodium due to increased urination output. Dr. B. states, and I emphasize, "the precaution to keep in mind is a loss of salt when water intake is increased and salt is not". Water and salt go together like a hand in glove.

Choose a brand of unbleached, non-heat dried, or chemically treated form of table salt for your home cooking needs. You can easily find them at a health food store. They have more natural minerals available than supermarket brands, but expect them to cost more.

Vitamin D is, technically, more accurately described as a hormone than a vitamin, and it greatly enhances calcium and other mineral absorption. Increasing your calcium, magnesium, and other trace mineral intakes offer very little protection against osteoporosis without it. This micronutrient, also, helps lower bone resorption, or the normal bone breakdown that allows for bone rebuilding (or growth) to occur.

By far, the best source of vitamin D is getting out into the sunshine. Exposing as much of your bare skin, sensibly, as much as possible. Aside from that, dietary sources of this nutrient are hard to come by. You can find it in limited amounts in food sources like, egg yolks (laid by free range chickens, cod liver oil, oily cold water fish, and fortified milk with the vitamin D-3 variety. In winter months supplementation is advisable, when warranted by blood level monitoring.

Most bone health information sources, also, fail to recognize the importance of healthy dietary fats, like omega-3, in the diet. As a culture, we have strayed so far from our native and natural diet. Our ancestors, upon fossil examination, were thought not to have suffered from the modern disease known as osteoporosis.

Lifestyle addictions, habits, and emotions that can contribute

Lifestyle habits and choices such as lack of regular muscle strengthening exercise, tobacco use, heavy alcohol consumption, gastrointestinal diseases, and the over eating of over processed junk food and beverages (especially sodas) all will have some bearing on the possible development of bone density loss.

As with any other degenerative health condition, and osteoporosis is no exception, your genes and gender susceptibility, diet, chemical exposure, and lifestyle factors are all a complicated mix that can contribute to the development, or healing, of any disease.

Another key player, that is often overlooked, is how unresolved emotional issues can contribute to, overall, health and happiness. We can experience less sabotaging emotional behavior that results in more physical pain, short-term illnesses, and long-term diseases if we are shown how.

No two people will need exactly the same combination of different preventive strategy techniques That seems to be the biggest problem in treatment with chemical drugs, or natural treatment alternatives as well. As a species, we like to think there is a, one, special, magic-bullet way that works for all. We are all beginning to find out, however, that it is often times, more than not, a combination of several different things.

It stands to reason, then, that by choosing to adopt a more diverse health care regime in preventiveness, by encompassing a wide variety of many different approaches may work better than just a few. More natural interventions, with much less chemical ones could very well keep one healthy, happy, and strong well into your 50's, 60's, 70's, and beyond.

As our bodies age, our metabolism tends to slow as our activity levels reduce and it is not uncommon to get a bit of a tummy. Stomach acid and saliva production are reduced making it more difficult for the body to process food. As a result, we are less able to obtain the nutrition from the foods we eat. In particular, we can easily become deficient in vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid. As well, many enzymes and coenzymes that are essential building blocks of the body or digestive aids, are produced in far fewer numbers or in some cases are not produced at all. This can all sound a bit too scary, but don't worry. There are some simple steps you can follow to keep you healthy and your body functioning at optimal level.
How to Create a New Healthier You Over Fifty is a post from: Diets-4-You-Info-Store

How Women at Midlife Can Reinvent Themselves

“You as a healthy woman in Midlife are different from women of previous generations at the same age: you feel younger and still beautiful, take better care of yourself, enjoy higher self-esteem and have great experience in the larger world. You have lots to give and there is no stopping you.” ~Suzanne Braun Levine

I agree with Suzanne Braun Levine’s opinion that fifty is not the new thirty, but rather fifty is rather a new fifty. You don’t need to feel you are thirty; you are the new fifty and feeling great. You are setting a new standard for the women in Midlife who are fifty, sixty and seventy…

You, as a Midlife woman today, see aging as a positive process that invites you to rethink what aging means. You think of aging more in terms of maturing. You are taking more responsibility for your own health, and spending more time than in your thirties to take care of your body: you are more careful about what you eat and drink, and exercise regularly.

As a healthy Midlife woman, you make sure that you get enough loving touch and enjoy giving lots of loving touch. You know that loving touch increases production of the love hormone, oxcytocin. You are aware that making love plays a very important role in keeping you more positive, being in better shape, retaining your memory, and improving your skin…just to mention a few benefits. You may also spend time in meditation, and you consciously bring newness into your life. You experience a healthier, sharper and more flexible mind and a healthier, vibrant body.

In the East, older people are more respected. Old people are actually revered. I was stunned when I heard my Chinese friend say: “We believe that if a person has lived even one day longer than we do, they have acquired one day more knowledge of life.” In the West, many young people seem to think of older people as someone “over the hill” or no longer “useful.”

Many young people think they are smarter because they grew up with laptops and cell phones in their cribs. They still don’t realize that there is more to life than technology. Yes, technology is very useful, but it does not make you a wiser or happier person. More informed, yes, but not really more connected on a heart level. As a Midlife woman, you learn how to re-create yourself. You may learn technology more slowly than younger people, but you have acquired a treasure of wisdom that younger people have yet to accrue, and you are eager to share it as you yourself learn.

You know that you need to be touched more than to ‘be in touch.’

Conscious, loving relating with each other contributes more to personal happiness than tons of information. As a matter of fact, too much information can sometimes create anxiety, especially when it comes to choosing. You may feel anxiety that you haven’t done enough research before choosing a product or service. When I grew up there was less availability of styles and models of things and it was easier to compare and feel like you made a good decision after a few minutes of research.

How can you, a wise woman in Midlife, make yourself heard if you are not a famous actress, singer, or politician? One of your opportunities to contribute might be volunteering your work for a while, or finding young people in your circle of friends and family who look up to you and then nurturing the relationship with them. Soon they are going to tell their friends that you answer all the questions they have without making them feel stupid… and you will have soon a large mentorship. Then you could take that further perhaps and give workshops, if you are so inclined. If you love writing, you might express your wisdom that way. It is good to learn new avenues of expression. It keeps your mind sharp and youthful.

You can also join a woman's group, or attend a midlife or Baby Boomer women's workshop where you will meet other women with similar desires to brainstorm and create new friendships with. Giving and receiving counseling has a special importance: books help to open the mind of the reader to the availability of experiential knowledge, however the actual transmission of knowledge happens through personal interaction – through workshops. Until intellectual knowledge becomes integrated on a body level, it cannot really create a real change in your life.

There is actually a perfect fit. Young people need mature guidance and we have a need to give it. As a Midlife woman I have taken stock of my assets and then put together my special package of knowledge, which I share. I invite you to do the same thing. You can rest assured that as you see the results of your contribution to others, wrinkles become less important and sagging breasts become more full of love.

The disease of diabetes is characterized by having excessive amounts of sugar, or glucose, in one's blood. This is caused by many different things : your body's resistance to insulin, or a pancreas that doesn't generate the proper amount of insulin for you to function properly. Insulin is a hormone that the body uses to convert glucose into energy. No matter the cause, you needs to control the level of sugar in your bloodstream, or else you can suffer from serious health concerns, among them the potential of entering into a coma. Figuring out the best diet for diabetics has been a topic of strong debate for quite some time.
The #1 Diabetic Diet is a post from: Diets-4-You-Info-Store

Top 5 Diabetes Diet Tips for Creating Healthy Meal Plan

Diet plays a key role in controlling your blood sugar. A healthy-eating plan tailored to your needs will do that and more. Majority of people affected with diabetes are overweight or obese. In fact, your risk of getting diabetes increases the more weight you put on.

So controlling your diet can be the key to reducing the risk of diabetes as well as improving your symptoms if you are already affected by this disease people often refer to as "the silent killer."

Everybody knows that maintaining a good diet is a healthy choice for every person. But for diabetes patients, this statement means something more significant than the recent fad over healthy living.

For diabetes patients, having a healthy diet means eating in a way that reduces the risk for complications that are commonly associated with their conditions, including heart disease and stroke. For them, a healthy diet could mean the difference between die-abetes and live-abetes.

Eating healthy involves eating a wide variety of foods that encompasses the whole diet spectrum of vegetables, whole grains, fruits, non-fat dairy products, beans, lean meats, poultry, and fish.

No, you do not have to eat all of that, but a little bit of this and that enough to balance the three basic food groups (Go, Grow, and Glow) is what you should aim for.

Tip #1: Preparing a Meal Plan

When you go on a diabetes diet, the first things you need to do is to prepare a meal plan. This will serve as your guide to how much and what kinds of food you can choose to eat at meals, and even at snack times if you wish to include that.

Now, be sure that your meal plan fits in with your schedule and eating habits. That way you will not be likely to ruin your diet simply because your work schedule conflicts with your meal schedule.

Keep in mind your end-goal: To keep your blood glucose in levels that are easy enough to maintain.

In addition to that somewhat myopic diet goal for diabetes, you also want to follow a meal plan that will help you improve your blood pressure and cholesterol levels as well as keep your weight on track.

All these - blood pressure, cholesterol and weight - are factors that contribute to the worsening of your diabetes symptoms, so controlling them could very well mean controlling your diabetes.

When preparing a meal plan, be sure to balance uptake and down take - that is, food and exercise, respectively. Additionally, your doctor may have prescribed you with insulin or oral medications to help you manage your condition.

Take those medications into account as well when you plan your meal plan, making sure that the food is balanced with the drugs. The whole thing sounds like it's a lot of work but with a few suggestions from your physician and/or dietician you can start building a meal plan that is best for you and your condition.

Tip #2: Use the Diabetes Food Pyramid

The Diabetes Food Pyramid, released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is composed of six food groups (arranged according to how much you should eat from the least to the most and based on carbohydrate and protein content):

• Fats, sweets, and alcohol
• Milk
• Meat, meat substitutes, and other proteins
• Fruits
• Vegetables
• Grains, beans, and starchy vegetables

Fats, sweets, and alcohol are the one food group that diabetes patients should avoid.

The problem with diabetes involves a certain malfunction in the way our bodies make use of glucose in the blood. It is either there is too much glucose in our blood because we ate too much food rich in sugar so that the hormone responsible for regulating glucose - insulin - is unable to cope. Or, our cells are defective so that even though we have enough insulin to handle the job, our cells do not respond.

In order to control the levels of glucose in the blood stream, controlling diabetes diet is important. The intake of fats, sweets, and alcohol and other generally "unhealthy" foods should be minimized and only for special treats.

As for the rest of the food groups, here are the serving sizes recommended by the American Diabetes Association:

• Meat and Meat Substitutes: 4-6 oz. per day and divided between meals. This is equivalent to ¼ cup cottage cheese, 1 egg, 1 tbsp peanut butter, or ½ cup tofu.
• Milk: 2-3 servings per day
• Fruit: 2-4 servings per day
• Vegetables: 3-5 servings per day
• Grains and Starches: 6-11 servings per day, equivalent to 1 slice of bread, ¼ of a bagel, or ½ of an English muffin or pita bread.

Use this Diabetes Food Pyramid only as a guide in planning your meals. If you want a more individualized option, consult your dietician.

Tip #3: Draw Lines on Your Plate

Another good way to ensure that you are eating a balanced diet is to draw a line across your plate. It could only be an imaginary line. As you sit there for a meal, the exercise might even prove to be fun.

The first step, of course, is to imagine that you are drawing a line through the center of your plate. Then, divide one of the halves into two.

Then, fill this section with grains or starchy foods, such as rice, pasta, potatoes, corn, or peas.

The other section should comprise your meat and meat substitute group - meat, fish, poultry, or tofu.

Next, fill half of your plate with non-starchy vegetables. You can place there broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, salad, tomatoes, and cauliflower.

Last, add a glass of milk and a small piece of roll, and eh voila! You are ready to eat.

Tip #4: Reading Food Labels

With food labels, it all comes down to the Nutrition Facts. It's that list of nutrition information found on the package of foods sold in the grocery store. Reading food labels can help you make wise choices about the foods you buy. The labels will tell you what ingredients were used, the amount of calories, and other pertinent information essential to a diabetes patient.

For instance, a typical food label would contain the total amounts per serving for the following nutrients:

• Calories
• Total fat
• Saturated fat
• Cholesterol
• Sodium
• Total carbohydrate
• Fiber

Use the nutrition facts found in food labels to compare similar types of foods and buy the one that contains fewer calories, lower fats, cholesterol, etc.

Pay close attention to free foods like sugar-free gelatin desert, sugar-free ice pops, sugarless gum, diet soft drinks, and sugar-free syrups. Just because they are called "free" does not mean they are entirely free of calories so don't be overconfident. Instead, read the label. Most free foods should have less than 20 calories and 5 grams of carbohydrates per serving.

Another thing, "no-sugar added" means no sugar was added during the manufacture and packaging of the foods. The ingredients do not include sugar. However, the food may be high in carbohydrates still so be sure to read the label carefully.

Fat-free foods could still mean that they contain lots of carbohydrates. Often, they contain almost the same amount of calories as the foods they replace so be sure to pay attention to the label. Buying fat-free foods instead of regular foods does not necessarily mean that you are making a wise choice.

Tip #5: A Word about Sweets
Now, you know that sweets are generally discouraged among diabetes patients. However, having diabetes does not necessarily mean that you cannot have sweets. Imagine how bad life can be for the sweet tooth with diabetes. But as long as you keep your intake of sweets in moderation, there is no reason you have to eschew sugar from your life forever. After all, glucose (sugar) is still the most basic source of energy that the body needs.

So sweeten your foods with these following options:

• Sugar and other sweeteners with calories: honey, brown sugar, molasses, fructose, cane sugar, and confectioners sugar

• Reduced calorie sweeteners: erythritol, hydrogenated starch hydrolysates, isomalt, lactitol, maltitol, mannitol, sorbitol, and xylitol

• Low calories sweeteners: ascelfume potassium, aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose

Research has overturned the long standing belief that sugar caused diabetes. The new studies show us that sugar has in fact the same effect on blood glucose levels as other carbohydrates like bread and potatoes. Based on this discovery, experts agree that a diabetic can now consume sugar as long as they incorporate it into their meal plan the way they would with any ordinary carbohydrate-containing foods.
Now that you have been pointed to the right direction with these tips to improve your diabetes diet, you can go ahead and live a healthier, fuller life where nothing - no carb nor sweets - is denied you, as long as you keep it all in moderation.

What is the healthiest Diet/ routine for a Diabetic?

I am a type 1 diabetic and am a little over weight. I find it very hard to keep slim. I usualy would have 7 hours of sport a week however i developed shin splints so now its more like 3 hours a week. i genrally eat a lot around 200grams of carbs a day. I'm 5foot3 and weigh 65kg which makes my bmi 26.2 which is classified as overweight. i would love a bmi of 19.5. How can i get there? and what are the risks for a diabteic?
Well i have had diabetes for 7 years and its not the blood sugar that im wanting to controle its both that and my weight,
thanx for the comments so far, although i wont be eating sugar cubes every half hour XD
im also gluton intolerant
which means no wheat or oats ect

it would be easy if you ate unhealthily before you were diagnosed but cut way back on fats and added sugars and salts. rice and pastas are healthy and veggies and a little fruit. no fat meats and non canned white fishes. careful with heavy sugared fruits and veggies like carrots, bananas and apples. probably vitamin and mineral supplements would really help you reduce the amount of food you need to feel good. keep exercise moderate and regular. eat exactly 3 meals a day every day and take test your blood and sticks exactly when the doctor tells you to. above all get good rest and avoid all drinks except for water. in my opinion it is very important to eat exactly the same thing every day. diabetes is a very serious illness but is manageable for many years by someone who understands that.
