Q: What is spyware?

A: Webopedia's definition of Spyware is as follows: Any software that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes. Once installed, the spyware monitors user activity on the Internet and transmits that information in the background to someone else. Q: How does spyware get into my computer?

A. Spyware often arrives via an automatic download from a website you are surfing. If you download freeware or shareware software, spyware can be embedded in the installation process. Spyware can also download on to your computer through email attachments.

Q: What is a cookie?

A: They small files or are pieces of information that are placed in your web browser to track web habits. Cookies are often useful; because a web site can track that you have visited it before and let you enter the site without a registration process. Cookies are also used to keep track of your progress through a web store. They are also used to customize website ads to your likes and dislikes. Some cookies can be considered spyware.

Q: How do I know if my computer has spyware?

A: Typical symptoms of spyware include a slower computer than normal. If your computer suddenly starts to run really slow, when it never used to, then it may be infected with spyware. Spyware often hogs system resources including the memory and hard disk space, so your computer slows down. Another symptom is if you get popups on sites where you didn't get them before. To find out, do a Google search. If you get a pop up then you probably have adware or spyware because Google does not have popups. Another symptom is when your web browser's homepage is hijacked when you go online. If your browser is suddenly redirected to a strange website, it's most likely spyware.

Q. Why is spyware considered dangerous?

A. Spyware can compromise your privacy and provide others with information about you and your computer habits without your knowledge. Keylogger spyware can capture your

keystrokes and send it to a third party. This could expose your user IDs and passwords to thieves. Other spyware include trojans which allow someone to log into your computer

remotely and use it to send spam or launch malicious attacks on other computers on the

Internet, making it look like you are at fault.

Q: What is a "jacker" or a "switcher?"

A: These are slang terms for Hijackers, or applications that will change your browser home page, your default search engine and even redirect you away from websites you try to reach. Though the term hijacker sounds like one person is behind it all, today, there are many scams involving Browser hijackers, which are malicious programs.

These programs can also produce pop-up ads for pornography, add bookmarks to Internet Explorer's Favorites folder, and can even redirect users to porn websites when they mistype URLs.

Q: What's the difference between Adware and Spyware?

A: Adware is an application that pops up advertisement banners or windows at random.

Adware can also be seen on your browser content in what is known as pop-ups. Spyware gathers information about your computing habits.

Q: I have a spyware remover program but I don't think it has removed a specific spyware program on my computer. What should I do?

A. Just like your anti-virus program, you need to update the spyware signature files in your anti-spyware program so that it will catch new spyware programs. If you already have antispyware software, go into your spyware program and see if it has a method to update these files. Q: How do I know CyberDefender Antispyware 2006 is working?

A: To verify whether your CyberDefender program is working please look at the bottom right hand side of your computer screen. In the icon tray you should find the CyberDefender icon which is a blue circle with the alphabet C inscribed inside it. If you do not find this in the icon tray look for it on the Desktop and double click on it to start the program. Your Network Marketing Sponsor is Also Your Business Partner - Make Your Choice Wisely

After reading the previous 5 articles in this series, you've decided that network marketing is for you. You've identified an industry you're interested in and a company you'd feel comfortable representing. The next step is to seek out a suitable business sponsor so you can begin building an organization of your own. Frequently, people join a network marketing organization because someone they know introduced them to the business. If your only criteria for joining a network marketing organization is because an acquaintance initially brought the opportunity to your attention, you may be putting yourself at a serious disadvantage from the get go.

I know, I know - how can you possibly join an MLM organization under somebody else when it was your own acquaintance who introduced you to the possibilities in the first place? This is a tough one and I'm afraid I don't have a cut and dry answer for you. But, I would recommend that you still ask the necessary questions (as outlined below) to determine that your potential business sponsor and partner is as serious as you are about building a strong business. After all, if you'll be building a business with anyone - regardless of whom that anyone is - you have the right to ask the questions that are important to you.

Firstly, you have to understand that effective marketing and prospecting are critical to building a successful MLM business. In large part, it is your sponsor's responsibility to help you with your business building efforts. Your sponsor should have a system in place they've been using to build their business. And, more importantly, the system is one that you should be able to use and one that you can pass on down to the people you'll be recruiting. Duplication of a successful system is the name of the game here. And I'm talking about a real business system, not merely busy activities which masquerade as a system.

For example, many people in network marketing today are still stuck on the old school methods of prospecting and recruiting. And, it's these archaic methods they'll pass along to their downline. These methods might include posting fliers all over telephone poles throughout the neighborhood, handing out business cards to strangers in front of a shopping mall or wearing silly buttons that say "Ask me how to make money and lose weight". Does this sound like a serious business system to you? Is this the system you'd want to follow to start a business? Are these methods really even a system at all? Even if you were open to following these types of business building methods, you will not be able to find too many other people who would be. All this stuff is hardly a serious business system.

I can recall a time about 5 or 6 years ago, I was home on a Saturday afternoon working around the house when there was a knock at the door. I answered the door to find a young man standing there wearing a silly button on his shirt who proceeded to tell me about the business he had just gotten involved in. I didn't want to be rude but I did chase him away after a few minutes as I wanted to get back to what I was doing. But I remember that day vividly. I remember thinking about the futility of his "business building" efforts. Blindly knocking on doors throughout a neighborhood is a one way street to massive amounts of rejection and lost time. Was this the duplicatible system that was passed on to him from his upline sponsor? If so, he obviously got into business with the wrong sponsor.

The above story is a clear illustration of the sort of prospecting methods you want to try and avoid. Blindly calling on and prospecting strangers is a very tough way to build a business. You can avoid this from happening by asking some direct questions of your potential upline sponsor. Here are my suggestions...

What strategies have you been using to build your business? Listen very closely to the answer. Whatever it is they've been doing is what they'll be recommending for you. If their methods resonate with you and it sounds like something you're comfortable with then great, go with it.

What has been your single most successful business building strategy? Everybody has their ace in the hole. What is theirs and does it sound like a winning strategy to you?

Do you have any new strategies you're working on to build your business? The answer to this question will give you an indication of how innovative your potential sponsor is. You want to work with a progressive thinker. Business can change rapidly so you want someone who can keep up or even stay a step ahead.

What will be your availability to help me build my business? It will be your sponsor's responsibility to provide you the support you need to build a business. Make sure they will provide you the necessary guidance.

What have been the biggest mistakes you've made in building your business? Making mistakes is an important part of building any kind of a business. It's OK to make mistakes. It's NOT OK to make mistakes if you don't learn any lessons from them. You will make your own mistake but at least you can learn what not to do from others.

This is the sixth in a series of articles on the MLM / social marketing / network marketing industry. In the next article I'll give you some ideas on the questions you'd want to ask of your potential downline business partners. Your business partners, on many levels, are even more important than the company you get involved with.

Here is a common question heard from many network marketers a few months into their business.

"What do I do when my warm market is gone?"

Your business is not going to fail because your friends, family, or co-workers do not want to join you. Just accept this as normal, and that that they are not right for your opportunity at this time. In addition, although your warm market can be your best option for customers and business partners, sometimes it can be the most challenging.

What else can you do to generate new prospects?

Some people like to buy leads. There are several different types of leads. Some lead companies collect data from the web, while others do infomercials and direct mail campaigns to acquire the leads. Then they sell these home based business leads to people like you.

Network Marketing is all about building relationships. Your ability to consistently find new people to build quality relationships, will allow you to frequently open up a new network of people to share your business with.

There are countless ways to meet new people that you may have not thought about. One of the best ways to do this is through the people you already know. Just think of the last boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse or partner you had, for instance. How did you meet them? How did you meet the current love of your life?

If you are like most people, then it was probably through the people you know. Furthermore, most people also often find the best jobs, clients, and friends through people they already know. Your business is no different.

On a parallel note, here is something that is often overlooked; the network of people who are NOT interested in your business. What about them? After all, they also know people you don't, and for this simple reason alone, you should be interested in them.

Just because someone you approach isn't interested in your business, does not mean that his or her friends or family will not be interested. When someone says "no" to your business, thank them for listening, let them know how committed you are to the business, and that you would have enjoyed working with them had they been interested. Then ask them if they know of anyone, a friend, a colleague, or a relative that might be interested in the opportunity. Be bold and ask their permission to contact their friends, family members, and associates. Ask them for a list of people that they think might be a good fit. You would be surprised how many prospects you can get out of a "no". In fact, it may just make them change their own mind altogether!

Another fantastic strategy is online searching. Network marketing in this day and age has been blessed with the power of the internet. Now, more than ever, people are developing relationships online, which quite often turn into relationships in person. Social networking online has created a revolution that network marketers like you MUST take advantage of. If you are not a member of online communities like Myspace, Pathconnect, Friendster, Ryze, Linkedin, etc., then sign up for one that interests you. There are many more, in fact too many to list, but these are the ones we have found to be some of the best for business.

This phenomenon of modern technology has multiplied the concept of meeting new people, and meeting the friends of people your new acquaintances. This is perfect because it provides a presorted filter of people values goals and interests.

Although we are advocates for avenues of networking such as this, we offer a few words to the wise about using social networking website to do business.

There are TONS of people in network marketing already taking advantage of social networking websites and most of them are doing it wrong. So in a way, you have a tremendous advantage if you do it the right way. Don't be like most amateur networkers and make the same mistakes they are making. There is an abundance of people making wild income claims that deface the value of network marketing because they simply are not true. Furthermore, most of them do not take the time to build the relationship before offering their opportunity.

Just because you have the power of the internet at your fingertips, does not mean you don't have to build rapport. In fact, it means you need to put MORE effort into doing so.
